What is the Commonwealth?

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 53 independent states, most of which are former British colonies. It's not a political union nor does it have any official status but it does have many shared values and aims, including peace, prosperity, and human rights.

The Commonwealth was formed after World War II as an alternative to what was then called the United Nations when Britain decided not to join it.

As you might expect from its name, the Commonwealth is comprised mostly of countries that were once part of Britain's empire (the wasn't part of this group until 1992).

However, there are also some exceptions like Australia which was never part of colonial rule but joined due to their shared history with Britain through trade links with Europe prior to being colonized by Europeans themselves!

When can we expect the next Commonwealth Games?

The 2020 Commonwealth Games was held in Delhi, India. The host city announced it in March 2019 through the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).

The 2022 Commonwealth Games was held in Birmingham.

Again in 2024, the Commonwealth Games are likely to be hosted in Durban and Johannesburg, South Africa.

This can change if New Delhi wins the right to host it instead of Durban or Johannesburg, but this is unlikely due to concerns about cost and infrastructure requirements in these cities.

The 2026 edition may go back on its previous decision not to bid for any future games until 2024 because there has been no further movement towards awarding either event successively following London's victory over Liverpool's quest for hosting rights which took place earlier this year (2023).

What is the Queen Baton Relay?

The Queen Baton Relay is a great way to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, which take place every four years and are held in cities around the world.

The Baton is a symbol of unity and friendship between all countries within the Commonwealth, especially when it comes to promoting sports.

The baton travels throughout each city on its way to Glasgow this summer, with athletes taking turns carrying it through their respective communities ahead of its arrival at Hampden Park Stadium on July 23rd.

The baton itself has been passed down through five generations since 1952 when it was first presented by Queen Elizabeth II as part of her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Today's batons were designed by Sir Charles Sterling using images from each country involved in this year's event so that everyone can see who they represent!

How will there be double the number of women competing in this year's Games?

The Commonwealth Games has a long history of the participation of women in its sporting events. Since 1930, nearly every Commonwealth Games has featured more women than men.

This year will be no different; there will be almost double the number of women participating in 15 sports compared to previous editions (2014).

The most notable change implemented by organizers this time around is that they have added five new sports: cricket, lawn bowls, and netball were previously not included in the program because they were deemed too dangerous until recently when it was decided to include them as part of their core activities for athletes looking for medals at future games.
